Gorgan
Gorgan
Gorgan is situated in northeast Iran, and it is the center of Golestan province and Gorgan city. Current Gorgan was called "Astarabad" or "Estarbad" until 1937. According to the 2016 census, Gorgan is the 24th most populated city of Iran with a population of 480,541 people. Different tribes live in Gorgan, including the Gorgani, the Sadat Astarabadi, the Tabari (the Mazani and the Katoul), the Balouch, the Kurd, the Sistani, the Turk (Azerbaijani, Qizilbash, the Turkmen and the Kazakhs), as well as immigrants from other provinces such as Semnan and Khorasan. Native people of Gorgan speak four dialects, namely Tabari Gorgani, Farsi Gorgani, Ziarati dialect and Katouli dialect.
Gorgan, Bride of the Cities of Iran
Gorgan is a touristic city, and in certain seasons of the year, it becomes one of the most immigrant-friendly cities of Iran. In fact, a lot of people choose this city to live in because of its unique nature, and Gorgan is known as the bride of the cities of Iran thanks to its spectacular nature, waterfalls and large picturesque forest parks.
The Weather
Gorgan has moderate climate, with relatively hot and humid weather in summer. The average annual maximum and minimum temperatures in Gorgan are +22.9 degrees Celsius and +12.7 degrees Celsius, respectively. The coldest month of the year is January and the warmest is July. The average annual rainfall in Gorgan is 583.8 mm, and it has an average of 14.4 days of frost per year.
Gorgan Tourist Attractions
Gorgan is one of the most flourishing cities in north region in terms of tourism and tourist attraction, and is a highly-visited city in Iran. In fact, Gorgan's unique nature encourages a large number of tourists to visit this city, especially in spring and summer. Naharkhoran Jungle, Alangdareh Forest Park, Hezaar Pich, Ghale Khandan Hill, and Golestan National Park are some of the natural attractions of this city. The Great Wall of Gorgan which is acknowledged as the longest architectural wall of ancient Iran, is the world's third longest wall after the Great Wall of China and Berlin Wall of Germany. In Addition, Jameh Mosque of Gorgan, Na'lbandan Bazaar and several beautiful historical houses are a few of the historical attractions of Golestan province.
Foods and Souvenirs of Gorgan
The most popular souvenirs of Gorgan are traditional sweets that are made in pastry and confectionery shops, and Gorgani women cook these wonderful sweets on various occasions. Gingerbread (Lovuez), date bread, Halva Omaj, Sarghabili, Sheermal bread and Paderazi naan (a special local bread) are among these sweets. Basterma (rice) with starry sturgeon fish, Chekdirme or Estamboli Polo, Spinach Kuku, Turkish Burek or Börek, Kei Torshak, Spinach Tahchin, Maash Polo, Nokhod Polo, Raisin Tahchin, and Torshi Pela are some of the most popular dishes found in Gorgan. Turkmen carpets, silk weaving and ornamental accessories are also a number of the handicrafts made by the people of Gorgan.
Life in Gorgan
Gorgan is a large city with amazing nature whose proximity to the Caspian Sea and being surrounded by dense forests in the north of Iran have created an important environment and have made this city one of Iran's tourism hubs. Gorgan is also one of the most immigrant-friendly cities of Iran whose population has grown fourfold in the last four decades. This means that immigrants find this area a desirable place to live in. Gorgan embraces numerous welfare, medical, recreational, and educational amenities, as well as various shopping centers, and is identified as one of the most developed cities of Iran. The average rent of a seventy-meter house in 2023 is about 7,000,000 tomans per meter monthly.
Transportation
Domestic flights of Gorgan International Airport are to and from Tehran, Mashhad, Zahedan, Kish, Bandar Abbas, Rasht, Tabriz, Shiraz, Chabahar, Qeshm and Asaluyeh. The airlines of Iran Air, Aseman, Qeshm Air, Kish Air, Zagros and Pouya Air operate the flights of this airport. Gorgan Terminal which is located in Enghelab Square, on the northwest part of the city, is the largest passenger terminal in the north of Iran. Gorgan railway station was opened in 1960 on Bandar-e Torkman - Gorgan railway line, and the executive operation of Gorgan- Incheh Borun -Turkmenistan railway ended in 2013 and was officially opened in 2014. Intercity buses and line and internet taxis are also available for transporting passengers.
Universities and Educational Centers
Gorgan has five universities, including Gogran University of Medical Sciences, University of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, Azad University of Gorgan, Payame Noor University of Gorgan, and Golestan University. Mirdamad, Hakim Jorjani, Lamei and Baharan Institutions of Higher Education are also among the other higher education centers of Gorgan.
