Karaj
Karaj is the center of Alborz province, the 31st province of Iran. It is located in central Alborz and this is why the name of this province is Alborz. Karaj is adjacent to Mazandaran from the north, to Qazvin from the west, to Tehran from the east, and to Markazi province from the south. Alborz province was established in 2010 following the parliament approval, and it has 17 cities. The most populated city of Alborz is Karaj with 1,592,492 people, while the least populated city is Asara with 1,339 people. Karaj is the fourth most populated city of Iran and the 22nd most populated metropolis in the Middle East. The majority of Karaj people speak Farsi. 

Karaj, the Small Iran
As a highly populated city with a rich historical background, Karaj has managed to become the current metropolis, and its administrative and commercial centers were sometimes formerly located in Tehran, Baraghan, Kordan and Hashtgerd cities. Karaj is one of the most immigrant-friendly cities of Iran, and thousands of people from all over the country migrate to the city every year, thus leading to the emergence of different cultures. Karaj is known as small Iran as it embraces different Iranian ethnicities and cultures, and this diversity of people and ethnicities have led to the title "the small Iran".

The weather 
In terms of climate, Karaj region is influenced by Alborz heights, Chalus valley and Karaj River, thus making this region colder and more humid than Tehran throughout the year. The reason for this temperature variance between Karaj and Tehran, especially at night, is the proximity of Karaj to the northern highlands, the cooling of these zones at night and the wind blowing from the mountains to the plains. The average annual rainfall of Karaj is about 251 mm with coefficient.

Karaj Tourist Attractions
Despite the fact that Alborz province is newly established, it is one of the richest regions in the center of Iran in terms of historical and natural attractions, and the caravanserais, bridges and castles constructed on the outskirts of this city have earned Karaj its identity. Morvarid Palace (Shams Palace), Haft Cheshmeh Waterfall, Shahrestanak Village and Yakh Morad Cave are among the historical and natural tourist attractions around Karaj.

Foods and Souvenirs of Karaj 
Due to favorable weather and the existence of gardens, pastures and agricultural lands, Karaj has high-quality agricultural and dairy products, as well as different fruits. A number of famous summer products and fruits are greengages, mulberries, and peaches. Tootak sweets is believed to be the best and most famous souvenir of Karaj, and Taleqan dairy products, jujubes and Damavand honey are the souvenirs that travelers are suggested to try. Some of the handicrafts of Karaj include Soozan Doozi (needle embroidery), stone carving, marquetry artwork, and glassblowing.

Life in Karaj
Karaj is a fairly modern city, and its proximity to Tehran, the capital of Iran, has led to its increased development. Because of their proximity to one another, as well as their great size and large population, Karaj and Tehran have formed the first megacity of Iran. After Tehran, Karaj is the largest immigrant-friendly city of Iran, and because of embracing various Iranian ethnic groups and immigrants, Karaj is known as "small Iran". Karaj is the second city of Iran after Tehran to offer various welfare, medical, transportation, educational and recreational facilities. Thanks to such amenities and neighborhood with Tehran, this city is the second most expensive city of Iran. The average rent of a seventy-meter house in 2023 is approximately 8,750,000 tomans per meter monthly.

Transportation
In 1988, Karaj-Tehran high-speed train's daily trip (from Golshahr station to Sadeghiyeh station) started, and on December 31, 2019, Shahid Soleimani station was launched, connecting Golshahr to the new city of Hashtgerd with a length of 43 kilometers. Likewise, section 1 of line 2 of Karaj subway was launched on February 27, 2023, stretching from 45-meter Golshahr station to Ayatollah Taleghani station with a length of 5.6 kilometers. Payam International Airport of Karaj is a passenger, postal and organizational economic airport with special potentials. Karaj also has hundreds of bus lines and intercity taxis.

Karaj has a large number of universities and educational centers, some which include Materials and Energy Research Center, Alborz University of Medical Sciences and Health Services, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources-University of Tehran Campus, Kharazmi University of Karaj, Art University- Karaj Campus, Razi Vaccine and Serum Research Institute, Shahid Beheshti Faculty of Karaj, Technical and Vocational University, Islamic Azad University of Karaj, Payame Noor University of Karaj, Farhangian University, and Persian Gulf Studies Center.
